How many assets do I have?
An asset is an item upon which a sequence of tests will be carried out on. When assessing how many assets you have that require testing thought needs to be given to be certain each item of equipment constitutes only one asset.
Equipment such as fridges, toasters, microwave ovens and heaters can normally be counted as one asset.
Equipment such as kettles and radios are often not only one asset. If such equipment has a power lead that is detachable and plugged into the equipment then this constitutes two assets, the power lead being one asset and the equipment it is supplying being a second asset. In this situation the power lead is tested as an asset in it’s own right and once it has been satisfactorily tested it is used to test the equipment which it supplies.
Computers normally consist of numerous assets, at a minimum this usually consists of the computer, monitor and two power leads, making four assets in total.
Low voltage equipment supplied by a separate power supply is usually only one asset, that being the power supply as no meaningful test other than visual inspection can be carried out on the equipment itself.
Consideration should also be given to electrical equipment where it may not be obvious that PAT testing is required. It is a common misconception that only electrical equipment with a plug on require PAT testing. Most equipment connected to the fixed electrical installation via a fused connection unit requires testing, such equipment includes heaters, hand dryers and some fans.
Why use Pass Electrical?
In choosing Pass Electrical to carry out your PAT testing your testing will be carried out by an electrician. PAT testing is only part of the story with regard to the safe use of your electrical equipment. While electrical equipment may pass the testing process it’s safety for use is dependant on the installation and environment in which it is used, many people carrying out PAT testing are not competent in making this assessment.
PAT testing is not limited to those items connected to the electrical supply via a plug and socket. Equipment such as heaters and hand dryers require disconnection from the fixed installation before testing can be carried out, such work should only be carried out by a competent electrician. PAT testers who are not electricians should not be carrying out this work and therefore cannot carry out all the testing you require.
We use the latest hi-tech PAT testers that capture and record test data coupled with software that enables us to produce reports and certificates directly from this data eliminating the errors inherent with manual systems.
What do I get for my money?
Each asset is subjected to a visual inspection to assess its condition. A full sequence of tests as recommended by the code of practice will be carried out. Appropriate labelling will be applied to each asset
Issue of appropriate reports and certification in either hard copy or electronically. Where required for asset management full test data and reports can be supplied on CD.
Free minor repairs will be carried out subject to repair being required on less than 10% of assets tested. Minor repairs include rewiring of plugs and changing incorrect fusing.
